However, along with voicing your opinions with hair suppliers, you can still customize lace frontal for dark skin or any skin tone you have. With just a few tinting and bleaching steps, you can wear your lace frontals just as nicely as others.

What is lace frontal?

For those who are not familiar with different lace products, let us introduce you what lace frontal is. The idea of it is merely hair sewn in strand by strand into a lace patch. The hair, of course, is used to replace your real hair whereas the lace patch is used to attach to your head.

For lace frontals, the standard size of the lace patch is 13×4 inches with the length longer than the width. When you apply lace frontals, the piece should run across your forehead, from ear to ear and covers your whole temple area. Of course, you can get the lace frontals’ size customized however you want to fit perfectly to your head.

Lace is used to giving your scalp room to breathe. Nothing is worse than sweat and oil trapped inside a wig. It promotes the growth of bacteria and leads to irritation, dryness or rashes. The holes in the lace help your scalp “communicate” with the environment better and keep it healthy. Those holes also mimic the natural pores of your scalp, which takes less time and effort to conceal.

A lace frontal is best for girls who experience thinning hair along the hairline, especially in the edges. The hairline is the place where hair sheds the most. That is why women resort to wigs to conceal it. Because lace frontals run from ear to ear, it covers the thinning edges by the wig’s hair, creating the illusion of hair growing straight out from your scalp.

How to wear lace frontal for dark skin?

To create a wearable lace frontal for dark skin, you need to do three steps right after you purchase the wig: tint it, bleach it, and wash it. You do the process once and can use the lace frontal for so long before tinting it again (in case you use semi-permanent dye). If you use a permanent dye to tint your lace frontal, the result stays forever.

Tint the lace frontal for dark skin

Before you start, you need a mixing bowl, a measuring cup, a spoon, a little sea salt and the dye itself. For the colour, the most popular product in the market right now is Adore semi-permanent hair color. It’s cheap, it’s nice, and it does the job. The only problem is because the product is only semi-permanent, at some point, you have to repeat the process. If you don’t want to, you can use the Rit fabric dye.

Choosing the right dye color is perhaps the most crucial factor in the process. You need to find the perfect match for your skin tone. Luckily, both products mentioned above have a wide selection of colors to choose from. Or you can even mix different products to create the right color for your complexion. It’s all up to you.

The first thing to do is to put 2 ounces of boiling water into the mixing bowl. Remember that your water needs to be piping hot so that the dye can blend easily. Add a teaspoon of the dye into the water and mix well. You can adjust the amount of water or stain until you get the potency you want.

You can also add a teaspoon of sea salt to remove the redness that dye usually has. Continue stirring until salt and the dye are entirely dissolved. Once things turn into a mixture, put the lace frontal into the mixture. Make sure that the whole frontal is in thoroughly. You don’t want to dye the frontal unevenly.

You can also add a teaspoon of sea salt to remove the redness that dye usually has.

Leave it for 30 seconds and take it out to check the color. If you want the lace to be darker, dip it for another 30 seconds. Be careful not to let the hair soak in the water mixture. You want to dye the lace. Repeat the process until you have the color you want.

Once you finished dyeing, rinse the hair with fresh water for the color to set. You can use your favorite shampoo and conditioner for the process. Let the frontal air dry, and you are done with the tinting process.

Bleach the lace frontal for dark skin

After the frontal is dry, you can continue with the bleaching process. The purpose of this process is to make your lace look more natural and more like your actual skin. You can use your favorite bleaching powder and volume developer. Put them in a mixing bowl and use a brush to mix them until you have a wet and thick consistency.

Apply the bleaching mixture on the inside of the lace frontal. You can use a brush or a Q-tip for the process. If you are a beginner, Q-tip may be a better option as it is more detailed and prevent the bleach from getting into the hair. Try to apply evenly to make sure all the knots are covered.

After that, flip the frontal over and let it sit on an aluminum foil for around 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, you can use a pointy brush and continue filling all the knots on the outside of the frontal that are still visible. Let the frontal rest again. Once the frontal is set, you can use cold water to rinse the frontal.

Step 1

You have to determine which product you use to tint the hair. Nowadays, there are tons of dyeing products out there, so you can easily get the best lace tint spray Amazon or on other websites. It would better if you choose a permanent dye as its color cannot fade over time. You will not repeat the tinting process again. Choose the right color to reach the perfect match. Remember that tinting lace closure/frontal is an easy process, but it requires time and practice to do smoothly.

Step 2

Once you’ve got the right color, mix it with hot water. You should use a sink when tinting lace because it fits your hair extension. If you use a large amount of lace frontal tinting spray, your lace closure will be more colored. For example, if you have a dark skin tone, you should use a dark mixture.

Step 3

Tie your hair extension to avoid getting wet during the tinting process. Don’t submerge the hair into the water. Now, color the lace by dipping the lace closure in the mixture you prepared in 30 seconds. Repeat this step until achieving your desired color. Don’t color the lace too dark as it will look unnatural.

Step 4

Rinse the lace part thoroughly with fresh water. Then wash it with shampoo and conditioner for this step. Then simply let the hair air dry.

Finish!

Besides, you can apply other methods to tint the lace color of your hair extensions, such as using tea bags, foundations, and more. How to tint lace frontal with tea? Put 10 tea bags that are 100% black tea in boil water for 3 minutes. Then, you use a spoon to gently press the tea bag to get all the tea out. Be careful as it may burn your fingers. You keep boiling water for 5 minutes and remove all tea bags. Turn off the stove and let the tea sit for 3-5 minutes to get cooler. Hold the ends of your hair and dip the lace into the tea. Check the lace to get the right color.  If you put the lace in the tea longer, the color of the lace is darker.
