Step 1: Wash your hair

To begin, you have to wash all residues from your hair that are left by regular shampoos. We recommend washing 2-3 times per week with residue and fragrance-free dreadlocks shampoo. Make sure that you are keeping your hair clean.

Step 2: Section The Hair For Each Dreads

You can use a tail comb to section your hair and start from the front of the head. The section between 1-3 cm so the dreads don’t get too big or thin. The quantity of the section is up to you.

You can secure each section by a rubber band (elastic) so that when you begin dreading, you don’t pull in hair from other sections.

Afterward, use a hair clip to hold the hair up.

Step 3: Twist And Rip Dreads Black Hair

Take one of the sections from the bottom, and undo the rubber band. You start to twist and rip dreadlocks.

Step 4: Tie Sections With Elastic Bands To Keep In Place

You can use embroidery thread instead of bands because it won‘t melt and allows the strands of hair to move freely.

You can remove the bands from your dreads about a month or even after making your dreads, once you feel that your hair lock and bind together.

Step 5: Separate Sections That Join Together

The area that joins together the most is on the part of the head that you sleep on, hence you can separate them once a week. The other only need separating once in 2 weeks.

Make Sure The Dreads Dry Completely

Because your hair inside dreadlocks is packed together so tightly, and very little air can circulate through the dread to help it dry. If you are not careful, they will sit wet longer and longer and even become a real threat.

Hence, whether you air-dry or blow-dry your dreadlocks, ensure they dry completely. If you use hair dryers, only set them in the low setting to avoid damaging your dreads. Using the cool setting also help to reduce frizz and increase the shine, but it may take longer to dry.
